Amman, Jan. 20 (Petra) – As part of its executive program under the national cleanliness strategy and efforts to curb indiscriminate waste dumping, the Ministry of Environment on Tuesday carried out a comprehensive cleanup campaign in the vicinity of King Talal Dam in Jal’ad, Balqa Governorate.

The campaign was attended by Secretary-General of the Ministry of Environment Omar Arabiyat, along with ministry staff, and saw wide participation from official and security agencies and members of the local community. Participants included the district governor of Salt, the mayor of Greater Salt, the director of Zay District, Civil Defense personnel, Gendarmerie forces, community police, the Salt Youth Center, agricultural groups, students from local schools, as well as volunteers and residents.

Arabiyat said the campaign reflects the ministry’s commitment to environmental sustainability, the protection of natural resources, and mitigating the negative impacts of random waste dumping, particularly in environmentally sensitive and strategically important areas. He stressed that the success of such programs depends on effective coordination among official institutions and active engagement by local communities.

The campaign resulted in the removal of large quantities of accumulated waste, highlighting the magnitude of the environmental challenge and underscoring the need to enhance environmental awareness and intensify preventive measures. This includes adherence to sound environmental practices and refraining from dumping waste in undesignated areas.

Participants commended the level of coordination among the participating entities, noting that while cleanup campaigns are essential, their impact remains limited unless accompanied by sustained public awareness efforts and a sense of individual and collective responsibility for maintaining environmental cleanliness as a shared national duty.

The campaign reaffirmed that environmental protection remains a national priority and a key pillar in safeguarding public health, preserving Jordan’s natural landscape, and ensuring the sustainability of its natural resources.
