ESC Economic Committee debates priorities for next period

Amman, Aug 24 (Petra) – The Economic and Social Council of Jordan's (ESC) Economic Committee on Monday discussed priorities for the next phase, based on proposals on current economic challenges and opportunities.
Key priorities included a study of the tourism and industrial sectors and geopolitical challenges and their impact on the transport and logistics sectors with the aim of enhancing the national economy's resilience to economic shocks.
The meeting, chaired by head of the committee Jamal Rifai, also tackled energy and water costs and their impact on production costs, and examined international trade agreements and their implications for the national economy and productive sectors.
Also on the agenda, specialized working groups were formed for each priority sector, which will conduct in-depth studies of the issues, identify key challenges and opportunities, and come up with feasible recommendations for the coming period.
The committee stressed that sector teams should adopt a feasible and participatory approach to enhance the council's ability to provide well-informed recommendations to support economic sectors and strengthen the competitiveness of the national economy and its resilience.
