Ramallah, April 30 (Petra)-- The European Union’s representative to Palestine, Alexander Stutzmann, announced the launch of a new program aimed at assisting victims of attacks by extremist Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank.
Stutzmann said the initiative seeks to provide proactive protection through volunteer groups deployed on the ground, as well as to establish a comprehensive system to enhance the safety and security of affected communities.
In a statement issued Thursday, he described the rise in settler violence as "a wake-up call," adding: "Unfortunately, we were unable to prevent these incidents, but we can work to ensure they are not repeated." He noted that the European Union is currently examining firm political measures alongside other steps, including the roll out of the victim support program.
The remarks came following an extensive field visit on Wednesday organized for the diplomatic corps accredited to the State of Palestine. The tour included participation from the EU Special Representative for the Middle East Peace Process, Christophe Bigot, and several international ambassadors. The delegation visited the village of Al-Mughayyir, northeast of Ramallah, to assess the impact of recent settler attacks.
