Amman, Aug. 3 (Petra) -- Activity in the exchange market has picked up in recent weeks, driven by increased tourist arrivals from Arab countries, continued inflows of remittances from Jordanians working abroad, and the return of expatriates during the summer holiday season, according to the Jordan Chamber of Commerce.

Firas Marwan Sultan, the chamber's representative for the financial and banking sector, told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that the influx of Arab visitors and returning expatriates has boosted demand for foreign exchange services and increased currency exchange transactions, contributing to stronger market activity.

He said workers' remittances remain one of Jordan's principal sources of foreign currency inflows, supporting market liquidity, stimulating economic activity and strengthening demand for the Jordanian dinar.

According to Central Bank of Jordan data, remittances from Jordanians working abroad rose 14.5 percent during the first five months of 2026 to approximately $2.1 billion, reflecting their continued contribution to domestic demand and the Kingdom's balance of payments.

Sultan said the sustained activity in the exchange market reflects confidence in the national economy, noting that exchange companies continue to provide financial services efficiently to both citizens and visitors.

Jordan's economy recorded real growth of 2.9 percent during the first quarter of 2026, exceeding earlier expectations.
