Ajloun , Aug. 13 (Petra) --The Land Transport Regulatory Commission will begin operating regular public transport services on the Amman-Ajloun route next Sunday, with three operating routes and a fleet of 22 medium-sized buses, as part of efforts to improve public transport services and strengthen connections between Ajloun Governorate and Amman.
Transport sector experts said the service would provide a more organized transportation option between the governorate and the capital, contributing to the development of public transport in Ajloun and supporting daily travel between the two areas.
Ajloun Governor Nayef Hadayat said the service represents an important step in improving public transport in the governorate and meeting residents’ need for more regular and stable transportation. He said it would facilitate travel, particularly for students, employees and workers who commute daily between Ajloun and Amman, stressing the importance of monitoring the service and ensuring its continuity.
Director of the Commission’s Governorates Directorate, engineer Rola Omari, said the launch is part of the Commission’s efforts to improve public transport and provide safe, regular and reliable services. She noted that the buses are equipped with electronic payment systems, CCTV monitoring and free wireless internet (Wi-Fi).
She said the fare is JD1.50 per passenger, while 2,000 free cards will be distributed to service users. The service will operate on working days from 5:15 a.m. to 8:15 p.m., and on holidays from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Omari said buses will run every 15 minutes on working days and every 30 minutes on holidays, reducing waiting times and supporting regular service.
She explained that the service includes three main routes. The first will run from Ajloun Complex via Jordan Street to the North Complex, with 54 trips on working days. The second will run from Ajloun Complex via Sweileh and the University of Jordan to the University of Jordan Hospital, with 44 daily trips on working days.
The third route will connect Ajloun Complex with Sweileh and Al Hussein Medical City, with eight daily trips on working days.
Omari said the service is part of the Commission’s efforts to improve public transport and encourage its use by providing regular, comfortable and safe transportation supported by electronic payment and monitoring systems.
Community activist Mundhir Al-Zghoul said the launch of the route meets an important need for residents of the governorate by providing regular transportation options and facilitating access to Amman and its various facilities. He stressed that maintaining regular trips and adhering to announced schedules would help strengthen public confidence in public transport.
Transport expert Dr. Eng. Ibrahim Al-Shakhanbeh said regular transport services operating according to clear routes and schedules could improve the efficiency of the public transport system. He stressed the importance of continuously evaluating the service and assessing its compatibility with users’ needs.
He added that the use of modern technologies, including electronic payment and monitoring systems, represents a positive development that could contribute to improving service quality and monitoring operations.
Resident Khaled Al-Qudah said the new service would help ease the difficulties faced by people who travel daily between Ajloun and Amman, particularly by providing transportation with clear schedules and regular trips. He added that a modern and comfortable service could encourage residents to use public transport instead of private vehicles.
University student Fatima Al-Samadi said the launch is a positive step for residents of the governorate, particularly students and employees who regularly travel to Amman for study and work. She stressed the importance of maintaining regular services and adherence to schedules so that public transport can remain a practical and reliable option.
The launch of the regular Amman-Ajloun service is part of the Land Transport Regulatory Commission’s efforts to develop public transport, improve services, strengthen connections between the governorates and the capital, and provide safe, regular and comfortable transportation options.
