Amman, Sept. 27 (Petra) - The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Jordan signed a cooperation agreement on Sunday with the National Agricultural Research Center (NARC) to launch climate adaptation interventions to combat drought and water scarcity.

The agreement, funded by the Government of Japan under the initiative From Scarcity to Sustainability, was signed by FAO Representative in Jordan Thaer Yaseen and NARC Acting Director General Zakaria Musallam.

The initiative supports drought-affected farming communities across Ajloun, Jerash, and the Northern Jordan Valley. It focuses on modernizing land and water management, building institutional capacity, and introducing climate-smart farming solutions to boost Jordan’s agricultural sector.

Under the agreement, partners will conduct specialized training and field projects, including: - Sustainable beekeeping and drought-tolerant farming.

- Organic composting using black soldier fly and worms.

- Regenerative soil management and nature-positive agricultural practices.

- Establishing a pilot training site at the Sharhabeel Bin Hasna Research Station for Sustainable Agriculture.

Yaseen stressed the partnership's focus on practical, science-backed strategies to help local farmers adapt to growing climate pressures.

Musallam, for his part, added that leveraging scientific research and innovation will protect natural resources, safeguard food security, and support vulnerable rural communities.
