Madaba, July 19 (Petra) – The second phase of a capacity-building program for Jordan's associations and community-based organizations on climate-smart agriculture techniques began Sunday in Dhiban District, Madaba Governorate.
The program is part of the Building Resilience to Cope with Climate Change in Jordan through Improving Water Use Efficiency in the Agriculture Sector (BRCCJ) project, implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
The program seeks to strengthen civil society organizations’ capacity to support sustainable agricultural development and help local communities adapt to the effects of climate change.
During the program's opening ceremony, FAO Policy and Education Expert Samia Akroush presented an overview of the BRCCJ project, outlining its goals, key components, and role in improving agricultural water-use efficiency, promoting climate-smart practices, and building the capacity of local communities and civil society organizations.
Building on the first phase, the training provides participants with practical knowledge and skills in climate-smart agriculture, sustainable water management, and the planning and implementation of local initiatives to improve community resilience to climate-related challenges.
The program brings together 25 representatives of associations and community organizations in Dhiban, enabling them to transfer knowledge and apply climate-smart agricultural practices within their communities.
FAO is implementing the program in partnership with Advance Consulting and with support from the Green Climate Fund (GCF). The initiative aims to promote a more water-efficient and sustainable agricultural sector and strengthen Jordan’s food security amid climate change.
Meanwhile, second-phase training will also be held in the project’s target governorates of Madaba, Karak, Tafileh, and Maan and will provide civil society organizations with practical tools and field applications to promote sustainable agricultural practices, improve natural resource management, and support effective climate adaptation solutions.
The BRCCJ project, included in the Economic Modernization Vision’s executive program, seeks to enhance the resilience of water-management systems and agricultural communities, improve water-use efficiency, and strengthen food security.
