Amman, Oct. 20 (Petra) – The fifth phase of the national public cleanliness campaign kicked off on Monday under the slogan "With Our Effort, We Protect Our Environment," across Jordan’s governorates, under the patronage of Minister of Environment Ayman Suleiman.

The campaign involved government and private institutions, the Royal Department for Environment and Tourism Protection, school and university students, youth centers, civil society organizations, and volunteers from various community groups.

Omar Arabiat, Secretary-General of the Ministry, said during the launch that random waste disposal poses a real threat to the environment and negatively affects tourist and archaeological sites, forests, and national parks, which are vital for supporting eco-tourism and boosting the national economy.

He explained that the campaign is part of the executive program for the Economic Modernization Vision, particularly regarding the activation of the framework law for waste management No. 16 of 2020. It is also a key component of the national environmental awareness plan launched by the ministry in partnership with state institutions and civil society organizations, coinciding with the recreational season.

The campaign aims to raise environmental awareness, change community behavior toward the environment, instill a culture of preserving the beauty and cleanliness of environmental and tourist sites, and enhance cooperation between official bodies and local communities.

This phase of the campaign covered multiple sites in all governorates, including Amman, Irbid, Ajloun, Mafraq, Zarqa, Balqa, Karak, Tafila, Madaba and Maan.

The Ministry of Environment continues its efforts to implement awareness and cleanliness campaigns to strengthen environmental citizenship, national belonging, and environmental awareness, aiming to protect the environment from pollution and reduce the incidence of random waste disposal.
