Amman, July 23 (Petra) - Torrential flash floods struck a tourist area in northwestern China on Sunday, killing at least 10 people, injuring 23 others, and trapping dozens of campers.
The torrent hit Shuangshimen, a popular summer camping spot in Weiyuan County, according to state broadcaster China Central Television (CCTV). Rescuers saved 174 people so far, continuing search-and-rescue operations for others.
China’s Ministry of Water Resources raised its flood emergency response level from level four to three (level one being the most severe) for Jiangxi, Hunan, and Guangdong provinces as Typhoon Noul hit the south, according to China Xinhua News.
Meteorologists issued a red alert, the highest level in China's warning system, for 43 counties across the three southern provinces, warning of severe mountain flood risks through Monday morning.
