Tallinn, May 16 (Petra) – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs Ayman Safadi met on Saturday with Estonian President Alar Karis.
Safadi conveyed to the Estonian leader the greetings of His Majesty King Abdullah II during the meeting, which addressed ways to enhance relations between the two countries and regional issues.
The president sent similar greetings to His Majesty, reaffirmed a keen interest by his country to increase cooperation with Jordan in various fields.
During his visit to Estonia, which began today, Safadi also discussed with Prime Minister Kristen Michal and Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna prospects of increasing cooperation in information technology, tourism, investment, cybersecurity, and defense industries fields, in addition to closer cooperation between the private sectors of both countries.
Estonian officials expressed a commitment to developing bilateral ties with Jordan, and within the European Union framework.
Along with relations, Safadi discussed with his Estonian counterpart, Tsahkna, efforts to end the escalation in the Middle East and restore calm on the basis of ensuring lasting security and stability.
Safadi also updated his Estonian counterpart on the serious deterioration in the occupied West Bank due to illegal Israeli measures that undermine the two-state solution and opportunities to achieve a just and comprehensive peace.
The ministers also discussed the situation in Gaza, which continues to face a humanitarian catastrophe as a result of Israel's refusal to allow sufficient aid into the Strip, and Safadi stressed the need to fully implement the US President's plan for Gaza.
The talks also dealt with efforts to restore stability to Lebanon and supporting the Syrian government in the reconstruction process.
Safadi commended Estonia's support of the two-state solution.
The ministers also discussed efforts to end the war in Ukraine.
Safadi also joined Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović, Moldovan President Maia Sandu, and Hiski Haukkala, Director of the Finnish Institute of International Affairs, in a panel discussion at the Lennart Meri Conference, with the theme "Moving Forward," which was opened by the Estonian President.
During the session, Safadi spoke about Jordan's position on regional developments, and efforts it exerted to address regional challenges and achieve security, peace, and stability.
Safadi also met with Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Estonian Parliament, Marko Mihkelson, to discuss prospects of enhancing cooperation between the two countries.
Also on the sidelines of the conference, Safadi held talks with Philippine Foreign Minister Maria Theresa Lazaro on bilateral relations and cooperation within international organizations, as well as the situation in the region.
He will meet tomorrow with representatives of the Estonian private sector in vital sectors, in the presence of the Estonian Foreign Minister, to brief them on the Jordanian investment environment, before departing for Lithuania, the third stop of his tour of the Baltic states, which began in Latvia.
