Amman, Oct. 22 (Petra) Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs Ayman Safadi held talks with Palestinian Vice President Hussein al-Sheikh on Wednesday evening, attended by Director of the General Intelligence Department Maj. Gen. Ahmed Husni and Director of the Palestinian General Intelligence Service Majed Faraj.

The discussions focused on efforts to consolidate the Gaza ceasefire, facilitate humanitarian aid into the Strip, and implement the second phase of the ceasefire agreement.

Safadi and al-Sheikh emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts to successfully complete the first phase and move to the second, aiming to establish a genuine political horizon for achieving a just peace based on the two-state solution in line with international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative.

Both officials reaffirmed that Gaza is an integral part of the occupied Palestinian territories where a sovereign independent Palestinian state must be established and that all transitional arrangements must reflect this reality.

They expressed appreciation for U.S. President Donald Trump’s role in reaching the agreement, ending the conflict, rebuilding Gaza, preventing displacement of Palestinians, advancing comprehensive peace, and his declaration against annexing the West Bank. They also praised the key roles of Egypt and Qatar in facilitating the agreement.

Safadi and al-Sheikh condemned the preliminary approval by the Israeli Knesset of two bills: one seeking to impose Israeli sovereignty over the occupied West Bank and another to legalize an illegal settlement.

They welcomed the advisory opinion issued unanimously by the International Court of Justice, stressing Israel’s obligations as the occupying power under international humanitarian law and the need to allow and facilitate aid programs for the Palestinian population.

The officials affirmed ongoing cooperation with regional and international partners to achieve a just and comprehensive peace, ending the occupation and establishing an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative.
