Foreign minister holds calls with GCC counterparts

Amman, April 8 (Petra) – Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs Ayman Safadi held a series of telephone calls with several regional counterparts to discuss efforts to contain escalating tensions.
His discussions included Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani of Qatar, Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the UAE, Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud of Saudi Arabia, Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani of Bahrain, Bader Abdel-Aty of Egypt and Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah of Kuwait.
The talks focused on coordinated efforts to end the current escalation in the region.
During the calls, held yesterday evening and earlier today, Safadi welcomed the ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran.
He emphasised the importance of ensuring that ongoing negotiations lead to a comprehensive and lasting de-escalation.
Safadi stressed that any agreement should be grounded in respect for international law, state sovereignty and freedom of navigation, while addressing the root causes of regional tensions and strengthening security and stability.
