Dublin, May 20 (Petra) – Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs Ayman Safadi met Wednesday with Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin during an official visit to Ireland, where he held talks with Irish Minister for Foreign Affairs, Trade and Defence Helen McEntee and members of the Irish Parliament.
During the meeting, Safadi conveyed the greetings of His Majesty King Abdullah II to the Irish leadership, while Prime Minister Martin asked Safadi to convey his greetings to His Majesty.
The discussions focused on the two countries' ties and expanding cooperation across economic, investment, tourism, cultural and defence sectors.
Safadi praised Ireland's support for regional stability and its longstanding backing of a just peace based on the two-state solution.
The two sides discussed coordination ahead of Ireland's upcoming presidency of the Council of the EU in the second half of 2026 to deepen Jordan-EU strategic cooperation.
The talks covered regional developments, including the situation in Gaza, the occupied West Bank, Syria and Lebanon. Safadi stressed the need to halt escalation in the region, ensure the sustained delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza and support efforts aimed at achieving security and stability.
He warned of the consequences of Israeli measures in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem that undermine prospects for peace and praised Ireland's support for Palestinian rights and opposition to settlement expansion.
The two ministers reaffirmed support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and discussed efforts to reinforce stability in Syria and Lebanon.
Safadi met with Chair of the Irish Parliament's Foreign Affairs and Trade Committee John Lahart and several committee members to discuss expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
During his visit, Safadi additionally held a dialogue session with members of the Jordanian community in Ireland, focusing on investment opportunities in Jordan and ways to support national economic development.
