Amman, March 3 (Petra) Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi said that the focus on the war with Iran and its repercussions must not overshadow the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.

On Tuesday, Safadi urged advancing efforts related to the Gaza plan proposed by US President Donald Trump and called for the international community to recognise the dangers posed by Israel's violations in the occupied West Bank.

He warned that continued Israeli actions aimed at annexing the occupied West Bank threaten to undermine the two-state solution, which he described as the only path to achieving a just and lasting peace.

In calls with several counterparts, Safadi cautioned against Israel's continued restrictions on freedom of worship and the prevention of worshippers from accessing Al Aqsa Mosque during Ramadan, describing the measures as a flagrant violation of international law and Israel's obligations as an occupying power.

During telephone conversations with Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha and Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Țoiu, Safadi said that Jordan condemns Iran’s attacks on its territory and on Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states.

He added that Jordan stands in solidarity with GCC countries in all measures they undertake to protect their citizens, security, stability and sovereignty and to exercise their legitimate right to self-defence.

Safadi warned of the risks of further regional escalation and called for restoring calm in Lebanon. He reiterated Jordan's unwavering support for the Lebanese government's efforts to safeguard its security and sovereignty and to strengthen state institutions.

In a call with the Ukrainian foreign minister, Safadi reaffirmed Jordan's firm stance on respecting international law and state sovereignty. He said the Kingdom supports efforts to reach a resolution to the war in Ukraine based on principles that guarantee its sovereignty and territorial integrity in accordance with international law, and that promote stability while protecting the legitimate rights of all parties.

Safadi and his counterparts discussed prospects for de-escalation, calling for the restoration of calm in the region and a return to diplomacy as the primary means of consolidating security and stability.

The foreign ministers of Brazil, Ukraine, and Romania expressed their solidarity with Jordan.
