Amman, August 22 (Petra) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, in coordination with Malaysian authorities, is monitoring the situation of several Jordanians, including children, who were exploited for begging purposes by a ring under investigation by Malaysian authorities for human trafficking.

In a statement Saturday, the ministry's official spokesperson, Fouad Majali, said the ministry, through its Operations and Consular Affairs Directorate and the Jordanian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, is following up on the situation of exploited people to ensure their well-being and secure necessary assistance.

He noted that the ministry is also coordinating with Malaysian authorities to facilitate these individuals' return to the Kingdom.

He stated coordination is underway with Malaysian authorities and relevant Jordanian agencies regarding the accused traffickers, some of whom are relatives of the victims.

On future action, he announced the competent Jordanian authorities will refer the adults to the appropriate judicial bodies upon their return to the Kingdom to take the necessary legal measures, in accordance with relevant national laws, including the Law on Combating Human Trafficking, which classifies this crime as a cross-border offense.
