Amman, May 31 (Petra) – French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot announced on Sunday that France has requested an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council following the Israeli occupation of the strategic Beaufort Castle area in southern Lebanon.

According to France 24, Barrot described the Israeli ground incursion and expansion of military operations in Lebanon as a serious mistake and a violation of international law.

He said there is no justification for extending Israeli military operations in Lebanon or expanding control over Lebanese territory, stressing that such actions undermine Israel's obligations under international law.

Barrot added that the advance into Lebanese territory not only contradicts Israel's commitments but constitutes a breach of international law.
