Fuel prices unchanged for June, diesel price adjusted

Amman, May 31 (Petra) – The Fuel Pricing Committee reviewed on Sunday local fuel prices for May against international market prices and approved fuel prices for June.

In line with government directives aimed at mitigating the impact of rising global energy prices on Jordanians and the national economy, the committee decided to keep the prices of most petroleum products unchanged for June while partially adjusting diesel prices without fully reflecting international costs.

The committee stated that the government has maintained its policy since the onset of the regional crisis of absorbing a significant portion of global fuel price increases rather than passing them on in full to consumers.

It noted that cumulative direct fuel subsidies provided during the crisis have reached approximately JD170 million.

According to the committee, fuel subsidies for June are expected to total around JD29 million, in addition to nearly JD3 million allocated to support the industrial sector as part of efforts to stabilise the local market and bolster productive industries.

The committee reaffirmed support for key economic sectors, announcing that the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) supplied to industries will remain fixed at JD695.81 per ton, despite its actual cost reaching JD929.58 per ton.

Under the June pricing decision, the price of 90-octane gasoline will remain unchanged at JD1 per liter, while 95-octane gasoline will stay at JD1.310 per liter.

Kerosene will remain fixed at JD.550 per liter, and the price of a 12.5-kilogram household gas cylinder will remain at JD7.

The committee approved a reduction in domestic jet fuel prices by JD.10 per liter to JD.783 per liter. Diesel prices will increase by JD.60 per liter to JD.850 per liter.

It noted that the actual costs of petroleum products for June stand at JD1.069 per liter for 90-octane gasoline, JD1.310 fils for 95-octane gasoline, JD.960 for diesel, JD.943 for kerosene and JD12.3 for a 12.5-kilogram household gas cylinder.

The committee explained that only about 35% of the actual increase in diesel costs was reflected in local prices, while increases in the costs of gasoline, kerosene and household gas cylinders were fully absorbed by the government.

It said the measures are intended to balance actual costs with consumer protection, in line with government policies aimed at cushioning the impact of global price fluctuations while gradually addressing cost differentials.
