Amman, April 30 (Petra)-- The Fuel Pricing Committee held its regular meeting on Thursday, reviewing petroleum derivative prices for April and comparing them with March, noting continued increases in global prices driven by regional developments.
In line with the government’s gradual approach to reflecting global price hikes, aimed at containing their impact on citizens and economic sectors, the committee decided to partially adjust local fuel prices for May. The adjustment does not fully reflect the actual global costs.
The committee emphasized that the government has maintained its approach since the start of the regional crisis, refraining from passing on the full increase in global prices to the domestic market and instead absorbing part of the rise.
It added that the government is bearing direct support estimated at around JD 68 million for May pricing, in addition to approximately JD 2.9 million in targeted support for the industrial sector, as part of efforts to maintain market stability and support productive sectors.
According to the committee, the average price of Brent crude rose to $120 per barrel in April, compared to $102 per barrel in March, marking an increase of about 17 percent.
Under the new pricing decision, the price of a 12.5 kg household gas cylinder remains unchanged at JD 7, despite global increases, while kerosene prices were also kept steady at 550 fils per liter.
Other fuel prices were set as follows: Octane 90 gasoline: 1,000 fils per liter, Octane 95 gasoline: 1,310 fils per liter, Diesel: 790 fils per liter.
The committee noted that the actual cost of a 12.5 kg gas cylinder reached JD 12.22, while its selling price remains fixed at JD 7.
It also indicated that the real costs for May stood at 1,061.3 fils per liter for Octane 90 gasoline, 1,147.27 fils per liter for diesel, and 1,128.89 fils per liter for kerosene.
The government has only partially passed on the increases to consumers, reflecting about 60 percent of the actual increase in Octane 90 gasoline prices and around 16 percent for diesel, while fully absorbing the increase in kerosene prices.
The committee stressed that the decision aims to strike a balance between actual costs and local prices, in line with government policies to mitigate the impact of global price volatility, while gradually compensating for cost differences.
