Amman, Feb 8 (Petra) - The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) has announced the instructions and conditions for establishing Ramadan tents for 2026.

According to the instructions, no Ramadan tent may be set up without obtaining the necessary permit from the municipality, as well as approval from the Amman Governor and the Ministry of Tourism for tourist establishments.

The municipality set operating hours from the Maghrib prayer until the Suhoor time. It also stipulated that tents or marquees must be made of high-quality, weather-resistant materials; meet all public safety requirements; not disturb neighboring areas or obstruct traffic; comply with the permit duration; and be removed within three days of the permit’s expiry.

The instructions require displaying the permit in a visible place inside the tent or keeping it available for inspection upon request. The municipality retains full authority to revoke the permit and remove the tent in case of violations or verified complaints.

They also stress that the tent must belong to a business licensed as a tourist restaurant, cafeteria, coffee shop, traditional café, café-category restaurant, or hotel, and must be adjacent to and considered part of the establishment. Ramadan tents are not permitted in residential zones, except for hotels. If located in a local commercial zone, the establishment must be at least 200 meters away from the nearest inhabited residential area and no less than 250 meters from places of worship and hospitals.

The instructions require providing sufficient parking spaces and valet services, adequate sanitary facilities for men and women, and prohibit serving alcoholic beverages. They also mandate compliance with licensed activities, including restrictions on serving shisha in tents operated by businesses without proper permits. Health Ministry regulations related to shisha services must be followed.

In addition, tents may not admit individuals under the age of 18 unless accompanied by their parents, and operators must adhere to public order and morals.

Licensed bakeries and pastry shops are permitted to set up tents for preparing and selling qatayef without paying exploitation fees, provided the tent is adjacent to the shop, meets environmental and health standards, does not occupy sidewalks, and submits a JD100 guarantee or bank check to ensure compliance and removal within three days after Ramadan.

Shops licensed to sell electrical appliances are allowed to set up tents for displaying and selling Ramadan lanterns and decorations, either adjacent to the shop or on vacant land with the owner’s approval, provided they do not cause traffic congestion. A JD200 guarantee is required, and tents must be removed within three days after Ramadan.

According to the instructions, applications for setting up Ramadan tents must be submitted to the relevant municipal district, along with a copy of the business license. Site inspections will be conducted by concerned departments, and district directors are authorized to approve permits. All permits are valid for one month only, during Ramadan.
