Amman, April 1 (Petra) -- The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) initiated, on Wednesday, the implementation of the first operational phase for waste collection and transport in the Zahran and Tariq areas through service-providing companies.

This implementation is part of the strategic partnership, launched by GAM through the Amman Vision Company for Treatment and Recycling (AVTR) and three privately-owned companies, to develop the solid waste management ecosystem to achieve efficiency and raise the level of services provided in the various GAM areas.

Deputy City Manager for the Districts and Environment Sector at the municipality, Mohammad Al-Faouri, confirmed that this phase falls within a gradual transitional plan aimed at raising the efficiency and quality of cleaning, waste collection, and transport services in the Amman Municipality, where operational rates will scale up from 10 percent to reach 100 percent over five months.

Al-Faouri stated that this partnership is expected to generate financial savings of approximately JD130 million over a span of 10 years, in addition to creating around 2,000 direct job opportunities.
