Amman, Nov. 30 (Petra) -- The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) launched on Sunday an intensive training program on the Cities Spatial Model, in cooperation with the International Growth Center (IGC), at the London School of Economics and Political Science and the University of Oxford.
The program aims to equip GAM staff with advanced analytical tools that enable assessing multiple urban growth scenarios and integrating economic evidence and analysis into urban planning decisions in support of the Economic Modernization Vision.
In the opening session, Executive Director of the Public Transport Directorate at GAM Fadi Saqqa welcomed representatives of the IGC, the British Embassy’s Economic Development Program manager, and participating GAM team members.
He stressed the importance of the partnership, founded on the principle that urban planning and economics are inseparable dimensions of the same process.
Head of the Transport Economics Directorate at GAM Islam Hazaymeh said decisions related to urban planning, sustainable transport, and land use fundamentally shape employment, investment, and quality of life. She noted that the Cities Spatial Model is a critical tool for quantifying and assessing the real economic impact of proposed projects prior to implementation.
Director of Planning and Human Resources Development at GAM Alaa Bayyoud affirmed that the partnership reflects GAM’s commitment to capacity-building and to adopting international best practices in urban management and evidence-based decision-making, contributing to the development of a more productive and sustainable city.
