HCD graduates participants in digital empowerment project

Amman, May 20 (Petra) -Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (HCD) on Wednesday celebrated the graduation of participants in the "Digital Beginning" project, following the completion of a four-month training program focused on developing entrepreneurial projects in the digital media and innovation fields.

The ceremony aimed to highlight the project's outcomes and the participants' achievements, and showcase their enterprises developed during the training period, which contributed to enhancing opportunities for integrating persons with disabilities into the digital labor market to achieve their economic empowerment.

Ghadeer Alhares, HCD Assistant Secretary-General for Technical Affairs, stated this graduation marks the beginning of a "new" phase that keeps pace with the rapid digital transformation and strengthens the presence of persons with disabilities in the digital media landscape by developing their technical skills and capabilities.

Alhares added that His Highness Prince Mired bin Raad, HCD President, is keen to support impactful initiatives.

Alhares said the current focus is on developing "innovative" initiatives that contribute to enhancing the presence of persons with disabilities and showcasing their creativity in various fields.

She urged the alumni to keep pace with rapid technological advancements and working to implement their projects in practice, noting the council will continue to support them and highlight their success stories and media productions in the future.

For her part, Dr. Rawan Jiyousi, Director of the Madraj, a foundation for digital media leadership, stated the "Digital Beginning" project has gone through 3 main phases.

She said the project began with training, then came an incubation phase for four entrepreneurial projects, adding that several enterprises have evolved into smart applications, websites, and specialized digital programs with promising opportunities for sustainability and expansion.

She emphasized the importance of the private sector's role in promoting the concepts of social responsibility and sustainable digital transformation.

Since its inception, she noted the project has strived to produce effective digital content to attract partnerships and sponsorships, which provided "real employment opportunities" for people with disabilities.

She stated the program represents a first step towards launching a second season, paving the way for transforming the participating projects into effective startups to attract funding and investment, which would promote integration of people with disabilities into society in an innovative and unconventional way.

Concluding the ceremony, certificates of appreciation were handed over to the graduates who successfully completed the program requirements, in the presence of representatives from the project's partner and supporting organizations //Petra// AG
