Amman, July 28 (Petra) -- The Unified Admission Coordination Unit at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research announced on Tuesday that, in accordance with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Law No. 20 of 2017, students with disabilities seeking to compete for seats allocated to them under the general admission policy for Jordanian universities, university colleges and community colleges must obtain the official disability identification card issued by the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (HCD).
In a statement, the unit said the requirement also applies to students seeking exemptions provided under the general transfer (bridging) policy, as well as those wishing to benefit from the tuition fee discount stipulated by law, whether they are enrolled in the regular or parallel program.
Applications for the identification card must be submitted through the government services section of the Sanad application by selecting the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and then the Identification Card Unit. Applicants must subsequently visit one of the council's liaison offices to receive priority for the required assessment.
The unit stressed that no student will be recognized as a person with a disability for admission purposes unless they hold the official identification card issued by the HCD.
It identified the liaison offices designated to prioritize applicants for unified admission as follows: the Northern Region Office, located east of the New Amman Bus Terminal behind Halim Sweets (Tel: 02-7249717); the Southern Region Office in Al-Thaniyah, Karak (Tel: 03-2387482); and the Identification Card and Services Unit in Arjan at the Prince Raad bin Zeid Complex on Sports College Street (Tel: 06-5663131).
The unit advised applicants seeking further information to contact the Higher Education Department's Inclusive Education Plan Follow-up Directorate on 06-5507373, extension 253.
