Amman, Dec. 21 (Petra) – Speaker of the Lower House of Representatives, Mazen Qadi, on Sunday received Chairperson of the National Center for Human Rights (NCHR), Samar Hajj Hassan.

According to a House statement, Qadi said the center plays a "vital" role in assessing the national human rights situation.

Qadi added that the House gives the center's reports its "full attention and prioritizes the human rights and public freedoms file," aimed to reflect the Kingdom's efforts in this area and strengthen the human rights system and the rule of law.

Through its Freedoms and Human Rights Committee, Qadi noted the House will examine the center's reports, give "remarkable" importance to the recommendations, and follow up on the relevant feedback, in compliance with Royal directives in this regard.

In turn, Hajj Hassan said discussions reiterated partnership with the Lower House to develop a "shared" vision on mechanisms for implementing recommendations of the center's annual reports and incorporating them into the House's legislative and oversight outcomes.

Noting the center's "commitment" to maintain cooperation with the House, she said today's meeting aimed to develop a shared vision for cooperation mechanisms on laws and issues with a human rights dimension, follow up on citizens' complaints sent to the House under NCHR's established channels.

Hajj Hassan also stressed the importance of the center's participation in deliberations of the House's ad hoc committees to discuss and present the center'srecommendations on draft laws.

On future steps, she urged regular meetings for the center and relevant parliamentary committees, based on clear timelines and specific performance indicators to "prioritize issues and strengthen human rights in the Kingdom." //Petra// AG
