Irbid, May 12 (Petra) – Secretary-General of the Ministry of Agriculture, Mohammad Hyari, inaugurated the first international peer-reviewed scientific "Conference on Artificial Intelligence Requirements in Irrigation, Agriculture, and Pathways to Achieving Sustainable Food Security," organized by Irbid National University (INU).
The two-day event is attended by researchers and academics from Jordan and several Arab and international countries.
Hyari, representing the Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Saeb Khraisat, said the conference is held amid "increasing" challenges related to water, climate, and food security, in parallel with the rapid advancements in artificial intelligence technologies.
Hyari noted Jordan continues to strengthen food security as a "national priority" linked to water security and economic stability by improving water use efficiency.
In this context, he said the Kingdom also expanded rainwater harvesting, digitalized agricultural services, developed national databases, and supported investment in smart agricultural technologies.
The ministry, he stated, has developed "advanced" digital systems, including a food security information management system and smart agricultural counseling platforms, to support decision-making, increase production efficiency, and reduce food and water losses.
In turn, INU President Dr. Majed Abu Zureik affirmed the conference reflects the university's commitment to supporting applied scientific research and keeping pace with advancements in artificial intelligence and smart agriculture.
He called for developing "innovative" solutions to address the challenges of water scarcity, climate change, and food security.
The conference featured scientific and discussion sessions that addressed artificial intelligence applications in agriculture and water management, digital transformation in the agricultural sector, climate change, and sustainable food security.
The sessions also reviewed international experiences in employing modern technologies to serve sustainable development.
