Amman, Sept. 13 (Petra) - At least six people died, and 130 remain missing after a passenger ferry sank in the Java Sea off Indonesia on Sunday, authorities said.
Indonesia’s search and rescue agency reported that emergency teams rescued 113 people from the vessel so far, including 107 survivors and six deceased passengers. Search operations for the remaining missing individuals remain ongoing.
Contact with the ferry, Virgo Transport 8, was lost early Sunday morning as severe weather hit the region. The vessel was carrying 243 people, including 30 crew members.
The ferry departed Saturday from Surabaya in East Java and was en route to Banjarmasin in South Kalimantan before it sank.
