Amman, Dec. 14 (Petra) -- Industrial production in Jordan increased by 1.44% during the first ten months of the year, supported primarily by steady expansion in the manufacturing and electricity sectors, according to official data released on Sunday.

The General Industrial Production Quantity Index reached 88.89 points, compared with 87.62 points in the same period of 2024, based on the revised base year (2018 = 100), the Department of Statistics said.

Growth over the ten-month period was largely driven by a 1.40% increase in manufacturing output, which carries the highest weighting in the index at 88.7%, highlighting the sector’s dominant contribution to overall industrial performance. Electricity generation recorded a stronger rise of 3.31%, accounting for 5.9% of the index, while output in the extractive industries declined by 0.42%, with a relative weight of 5.4%.

On a year-on-year basis, the industrial production index rose by 1.19% in October, indicating sustained momentum in industrial activity compared with the same month last year. However, on a month-on-month basis, the index fell by 1.41% compared with September, reflecting short-term fluctuations across key sectors.

The index level for October stood at 88.20 points, up from 87.17 points a year earlier, but down from 89.47 points in September.

Sectoral data showed that the annual increase in October was underpinned by a 0.87% rise in manufacturing output, a 3.36% increase in extractive industries, and a 4.0% gain in electricity production. In contrast, month-on-month comparisons revealed a 1.51% decline in manufacturing output and a 6.83% contraction in electricity generation, while the extractive industries posted a 6.70% increase.
