Amman, February 2 (Petra) – Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Ya'rub Qudah said Jordan and Syria have real opportunities to build a strategic economic partnership capable of addressing challenges and supporting sustainable development.

Speaking at the Jordanian-Syrian Economic Forum, organised by the Amman Chamber of Commerce, Qudah said that relations between the two countries are deeply rooted and guided by clear Royal directives supporting Syria's stability and prosperity.

He added that economic cooperation with Syria is a long-term strategic path that goes beyond trade to include joint investments and integrated projects.

Qudah said building a sustainable partnership requires close public- and private-sector cooperation and translating political relations into tangible projects.

He discussed Jordan's efforts to develop an integrated logistics system, including development zones and a cargo airport in Mafraq, noting that these projects could support regional trade and Syria's reconstruction through coordination.

He added that Jordan enjoys preferential trade advantages through free trade agreements with the EU, the United States and Canada, offering broad export opportunities for investors.

Qudah said understandings are underway with Syria, including a review of banned import lists based on reciprocity, expected to be completed by March following technical procedures.

Syrian Minister of Economy and Industry Nidal Shaar said relations with Jordan are based on trust and shared interests, noting that Syria has begun a gradual recovery phase despite limited resources.

He highlighted government efforts to support small and medium-sized enterprises, rehabilitate infrastructure and improve the investment environment.

Shaar said Syria seeks regional partnerships, particularly with Jordan and noted growing demand in the Syrian market with millions returning to economic activity.

He called on Jordanian institutions and companies to contribute to investment, reconstruction and economic reintegration.

Chair of the Amman and Jordan Chambers of Commerce Senator Khalil Al-Haj Tawfiq said the twinning agreement between the Amman and Damascus Chambers of Commerce marks a turning point in bilateral economic relations and paves the way for a genuine private-sector partnership.

The forum included meetings between Jordanian and Syrian businesspeople from various sectors.

According to Department of Statistics figures, trade between Jordan and Syria rose by 185% during the first 11 months of last year, reaching about JD308 million, compared with JD108 million during the same period a year earlier.
