Insurance federation launches professional diploma to advance sector expertise

Amman, May 18 (Petra) -- The Jordan Insurance Federation, in cooperation with the Institute of Banking Studies, on Monday launched the Professional Diploma in Insurance, aimed at strengthening human capital in the insurance sector and enhancing its capacity to keep pace with rapid industry developments in line with international standards and best practices.

The program represents the first comprehensive specialized professional insurance track at the national level and is designed to equip professionals with the technical expertise and practical skills required to meet labor market demands and emerging trends in the insurance industry.

The initiative stems from a strategic partnership between the Jordan Insurance Federation and the Institute of Banking Studies, with support from the Central Bank of Jordan, as part of broader efforts to strengthen professional development, institutionalize continuous learning, and establish an advanced training framework that enhances workforce efficiency and sector competitiveness locally and regionally.

Chairperson of the federation Majed Smeirat said the launch of the diploma marks a significant milestone in developing the insurance sector and upgrading workforce competencies, noting that the initiative reflects the federation’s commitment to investing in professional development and knowledge-based capacity building.

Smeirat said the program was developed through close cooperation between the federation, the Institute of Banking Studies, and the Central Bank of Jordan to enhance the technical and professional capabilities of insurance sector employees in accordance with internationally recognized standards and practices.

He explained that the diploma is structured as a progressive and integrated training pathway comprising three stages: the Insurance Certificate, the Insurance Diploma, and the Advanced Insurance Diploma. The first stage includes five core modules covering insurance principles, general insurance, insurance claims, underwriting, and insurance legislation.

Smeirat noted that the curriculum was developed according to internationally accredited standards and incorporates practical case studies and workplace-based examples to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and professional application.

He added that 18 authors and reviewers, including experts, academics, and specialists, contributed to developing the program content to ensure the delivery of comprehensive scientific and professional material aligned with sector needs and future aspirations.

Smeirat also highlighted the federation’s ongoing training and development efforts, noting that since 2020 it has implemented a free annual training plan for member companies featuring around 40 programs and workshops benefiting approximately 3,000 participants from Jordan and the Arab region each year.

The programs cover insurance, technology, risk management, artificial intelligence, and other emerging fields relevant to the sector.

He added that the federation has strengthened the regional standing of its insurance conferences, particularly the International Insurance Conference, which has become one of the region’s leading specialized industry events attracting participants from numerous Arab and international countries.

Smeirat also announced that Jordan will host the General Conference of the General Arab Insurance Federation in the Dead Sea region in October 2026, with participation expected from 2,000 to 2,500 delegates representing around 60 Arab and international countries.

He said the event will provide an important opportunity to promote Jordan and its conference tourism sector, while reinforcing the Kingdom’s regional and international standing in the insurance industry.
