Amman, July 7 (Petra) – Data published in the Government Finance Bulletin issued by the Ministry of Finance showed that Jordan's public debt, excluding debt owed to the Social Security Corporation (SSC), stood at 84 per cent of GDP.
The ministry said it follows internationally recognised methodologies and standards in disclosing public debt data, including excluding SSC debt when calculating the official public debt ratio, in line with practices agreed upon with international financial institutions.
It noted that data on SSC debt is published in the Government Finance Bulletin as part of the government's commitment to transparency.
The ministry reaffirmed the government's commitment, under the National Reform Programme, to reducing the public debt-to-GDP ratio to around 80 per cent by the end of 2028.
It added that Jordan's public debt has remained stable in recent years despite regional geopolitical uncertainty and instability.
The ministry said international institutions have commended the government's fiscal measures, its commitment to maintaining debt sustainability and its continued ability to meet both domestic and external financial obligations.
