Irbid Chamber of Industry Exports Rise 7.2% to $718 Million in First Seven Months

Irbid, Aug. 27 (Petra)-- Hatim Zaza - The Irbid Chamber of Industry issued 9,230 certificates of origin from the beginning of the year through the end of July, Chairperson Hani Abu Hassan said Thursday.

Speaking to the Jordan News Agency (Petra), Abu Hassan said the chamber’s exports rose by 7.2 percent during the first seven months of 2026, reaching $718 million, compared with $666.5 million during the same period in 2025.

He noted that the leather and garment industries ranked first in terms of their contribution to the governorate’s total exports, with exports reaching $632 million. Food, supply, agricultural and livestock industries came second with $39 million, followed by therapeutic industries and medical supplies, with more than $20 million.

Chemical industries and cosmetics ranked fourth, with exports exceeding $14 million, followed by plastics and rubber industries with more than $4.975 million. Engineering, electrical and information technology industries ranked sixth, with exports exceeding $2.381 million.

Exports of construction industries stood at $2 million, while packaging, paper, cardboard and office supplies reached $771,000. Mining industries recorded $198,000, while wood and furniture industries reached $106,000.

Abu Hassan said the United States topped the list of destinations for Irbid’s industrial exports during the first seven months of the year, with shipments exceeding $480 million. The Netherlands followed with $32 million, Germany with $26 million, Saudi Arabia with $18 million, and Canada with $14.4 million.

The Al Hassan Industrial Estate accounted for the largest share of the chamber’s exports, valued at $694 million, followed by exports from Cyber City at more than $22 million and those from the chamber’s headquarters at more than $5.3 million.

Abu Hassan said the growth in the chamber’s exports despite economic and regional challenges reflected the continued positive momentum of the industrial sector and its ability to maintain its presence in international markets amid changes in global trade.

He affirmed that the sector continues to maintain its production and export capacity, adding that the results demonstrate the strength of the industrial sector in the northern region and the continued efforts of industrial companies to enhance the competitiveness of their products, improve production processes and expand into international markets.

He also highlighted companies’ ability to adapt to various regional and international challenges.

Abu Hassan stressed that Jordan has provided a favorable industrial investment environment by streamlining procedures to maintain the competitiveness of Jordanian products. He added that the chamber is working with government agencies and partner institutions to open new markets and diversify exports.
