Irbid, Dec. 31 (Petra) -- The Irbid Qasabah Education Directorate has completed a comprehensive package of construction, maintenance, and classroom expansion projects across several schools in the district as part of its annual plan, aimed at upgrading the education system and improving the school environment.

Director of the Directorate, Raad Khasawneh, said technical teams from the Buildings Department finalized scheduled and comprehensive maintenance works at 80 schools.

The works included upgrading electrical networks, maintaining sanitation facilities and classrooms, supplying 73 air-conditioning units to a number of schools, and paving schoolyards with asphalt mixtures to ensure a safe and sustainable learning environment for students and teaching staff.

Regarding new school buildings, Khasawneh noted significant progress in several major projects. Completion rates at Jameela Bouazza Basic School for Girls and the school built on the grounds of Al-Hasan Ibn Al-Haytham School reached about 70 percent.

Work has also commenced on Amneh Bint Wahb School on shared land with Ibn Zaidoun Basic School for Boys.

He explained that the projects are being implemented within the Ministry of Education’s strategy to replace rented buildings with model school facilities owned by the ministry.

Khasawneh added that Marou Basic School for Boys, implemented under Royal initiatives, is nearing completion with an achievement rate of 85 percent.

He also pointed to the completion of 12 classrooms at Al-Zarnouji Comprehensive School, in addition to classroom expansions at Shafiq Arshidat and Hadiqat Tunis schools to accommodate growing student numbers.

On community responsibility, he reviewed cooperation with Greater Irbid Municipality and the Environmental Protection Directorate in implementing environmental initiatives and cleanliness campaigns to promote sustainability concepts.

He also highlighted the implementation of the "Hand in Hand for Safe Streets" project at Rufaidah Al-Aslamiyah Basic School, in partnership with URBAN Organization, to regulate traffic in front of school gates and reduce pedestrian accidents.

Khasawneh announced that the directorate is preparing the Educational Technology and Information Department and the Civil Service Bureau affiliated with the directorate as accredited centers to conduct computerized General Secondary Education Certificate (Tawjihi) examinations, contributing to the development of assessment tools and strengthening the technical infrastructure of the education process.
