Irbid, Dec. 23 (Petra) - Exports of the Irbid Chamber of Industry grew by 2.5 percent during the first 11 months of this year, reaching USD 1.06 billion.

The chamber issued about 14,030 certificates of origin over the period, up from 13,700 in the same period last year, marking a 2 percent increase.

Chamber President Hani Abu Hassan told Petra that leather and garment industries ranked first, contributing 87.1 percent of Irbid’s total exports, driven by strong demand in US and European markets for ready-made apparel.

Food and agricultural industries ranked second at 6.7 percent, supported by product diversification and improved competitiveness in regional and international markets.

They were followed by pharmaceutical and medical supplies industries at 3.4 percent, chemical and cosmetics industries at 1.9 percent, and plastic industries at 0.8 percent.

Abu Hassan said Al-Hassan Industrial City accounted for more than 95 percent of total exports, followed by Cyber City at 3.4 percent.

He noted that the United States remains the main destination for Irbid’s industrial exports, absorbing more than half of total exports, while European countries accounted for 10.7 percent and Arab countries for about 8.4 percent.

He affirmed that the industrial sector in the northern region continues to perform in a balanced manner despite regional challenges and global economic conditions, adding that growth over the 11-month period reflects the sector’s resilience and adaptability, as well as its continued contribution to boosting national exports.

Abu Hassan stressed that Irbid’s industrial sector remains a key pillar in supporting the national economy, underlining the importance of further developing services for industrialists, opening new markets, and diversifying the export base to enhance the competitiveness of Jordanian products and ensure sustainable economic growth in the governorate.

He also praised the government’s role in supporting the industrial investment environment and facilitating procedures to maintain the competitiveness of Jordanian products, noting that the chamber closely monitors export performance on a monthly basis and works with government bodies and partner institutions to open new markets and diversify exports.
