Mafraq, Sept. 15 (Petra) -- Jaber Border Crossing has expanded its freight-handling capacity with a new yard accommodating around 200 loaded trucks, as commercial traffic from Syria continues to increase.

The new facility is equipped with the technology needed to speed up truck entry and improve the flow of goods through the crossing, Acting Mafraq Governor Ahmad Al-Zuhair told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) on Tuesday.

The expansion is part of a broader upgrade of the crossing under the Interior Ministry’s 2026-2027 border development plan, covering both freight and passenger traffic.

Al-Zuhair said vehicle and bus lanes for travelers arriving from Syria have been expanded to ease congestion and facilitate movement through the border crossing.

A dedicated passport processing building has also been prepared for bus passengers to streamline procedures and reduce pressure on existing facilities.

The upgrades include plans for an operations room linking central administrations with the various agencies working at the Jaber crossing, aimed at improving coordination and simplifying routine procedures for passengers and cargo trucks.

Al-Zuhair said the measures are part of the Interior Ministry’s efforts to modernize border crossings, facilitate passenger movement and improve the efficiency of freight traffic.
