Jerash, March 17 (Petra) -- The Kingdom’s governorates have witnessed royal attention aimed at rehabilitating infrastructure and developing healthcare services provided to citizens in governorates and remote areas.

Royal attention to the health sector in the governorates has been reflected on the ground, with new hospitals opened, older hospitals rehabilitated and developed, health centers restored and upgraded, and digital transformation in the health sector strengthened, with the aim of enhancing the quality of healthcare services for citizens.

Citizens in Jerash governorate praised the inauguration on Monday by HRH Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II of the project to rehabilitate and develop the Comprehensive Jerash Healthcare Center. The project was implemented under his directives last year to improve the quality of healthcare services provided to citizens in the governorate and to enhance digital transformation in the health sector. The project was completed in partnership between the Ministry of Health and the Himmetna Health Association and serves more than 70,000 visitors annually from Jerash governorate and neighbouring areas.

Citizens said that healthcare services and medicines are available at the Comprehensive Jerash Healthcare Center, which reduces their need to go to Jerash Government Hospital. The availability of specialised clinics at the center will reduce patients’ need to visit the main hospital and enable early detection of chronic diseases and epidemics.

They stressed that their medical and health needs, as well as those of their children and women, have been met following the rehabilitation and development of the Comprehensive Jerash Healthcare Center. Dental, gynaecology and pediatric clinics have been provided, noting that Jerash governorate is among the Kingdom’s key tourist areas, which calls for the provision of all healthcare services there so that tourists can benefit in case of any emergency.

Citizens said the inauguration of the project to rehabilitate and develop the Comprehensive Jerash Healthcare Center underscores the level of attention of His Majesty King Abdullah II and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II to the health sector in the governorates and the realization of their vision to provide fast, high-quality healthcare services that enhance public health in the governorates.

For his part, Director of the Jerash Health Directorate Saeb Abu Aboud told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that the Comprehensive Jerash Healthcare Center was opened in 2007 with an area of 1,200 square meters. In November 2024, the Himmetna project, under royal initiatives, carried out development and rehabilitation works at the healthcare center and expanded it so that the total area now stands at 1,800 square meters, at a cost of JD1.5 million.

Abu Aboud added that a side expansion of the center was carried out by adding warehouses and a medical waste room, in addition to a second floor including an administration wing, a diwan, a meeting room and a quality control room. A front expansion of the center was also added, and the old area was rehabilitated. Electronic payment services and an electronic queue system were introduced, and more reception and records stations were added.

He said new services were added in the center's clinics, including internal medicine, pediatrics, gynecology, community health, mental health and nutrition clinics; three general medicine clinics; two family medicine clinics; an emergency medicine clinic; a maternity doctor clinic; three dental clinics; and a mental health clinic.

He added that the maternity department and the chest diseases department were expanded, and the emergency, laboratory and radiology departments were updated and developed. The center was equipped with dental specializations including prosthodontics, periodontics and endodontics; panoramic dental imaging; and the provision of full services including vaccinations, a modern and advanced laboratory with all tests, and integrated and digital healthcare services.

He confirmed that the Jerash Health Directorate is studying extending the working hours of the Comprehensive Jerash Healthcare Center to 10 p.m. instead of 4 p.m. to provide healthcare services to citizens and reduce pressure on the emergency department of Jerash Government Hospital, especially during peak evening hours. He noted that the Jerash Health Directorate oversees 21 health centers, including four comprehensive health centers, 13 primary health centers, and four sub-clinics.
