Amman, Jan. 7 (Petra) -- The Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) said that infant formula products recalled globally as a precautionary measure were not imported into the local market.
The JFDA said the voluntary precautionary recall of certain batches of Nestlé infant formula products worldwide, including SMA, BEBA, and NAN, was prompted by potential contamination with cereulide toxin produced by Bacillus cereus bacteria, which may cause nausea, vomiting, and colic.
It said all varieties of BEBA and SMA infant formula are neither registered nor marketed in Jordan and were not imported into the local market. These include SMA Alfamino, SMA First Infant Milk, SMA Little Steps First Infant Milk, SMA Anti Reflux, SMA Lactose Free, SMA Comfort, and SMA Advanced Follow-On Milk.
The JFDA added that for further details on the globally affected products and batch numbers not authorized in Jordan, reference can be made to the link https://s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/fsa-alerts-files/production/FSA-PRI N-02-2026/new-RackMultipart20260105-15-oug5f6.pdf, for verification purposes in case citizens personally brought these products from abroad.
Regarding NAN infant formula for infants under one year old, the JFDA said extensive samples were taken from the market for all registered and marketed varieties. Laboratory tests showed the samples were safe and free of the mentioned bacteria, with the exception of batch number 50750346B of NAN Optipro 1. This batch is being recalled and held as a precautionary measure, in coordination with the manufacturer, to conduct confirmatory tests to ensure consumer safety.
The JFDA urged citizens to stop using this batch and return it to the place of purchase. It said it continuously monitors international warnings and developments related to the safety of food, drugs, and infant formula and takes the necessary measures to safeguard public health, particularly that of children.
