Jordan Advances Efforts to Improve Rankings in Global Growth, Human Development Indices

Amman, Aug. 13 (Petra) --The Executive Program of the Economic Modernization Vision has included a number of measures aimed at improving Jordan’s rankings in international indices. According to the report covering the first half of this year, the country has completed the measures set out in the short-term action plans for the Future of Growth Index and the Human Development Index.

Under the plan to improve Jordan’s ranking in the Future of Growth Index, all measures included in the short-term action plan have been completed. The methodology used to survey chief executives and the criteria for selecting the representative sample were updated in line with changes introduced by the World Economic Forum to maintain the reliability and relevance of the survey. The survey period was set to run from July 2 to October 31, 2026.

Work on data provision and processing also covered indicators related to the number of hospital beds per 1,000 people and the number of health workers per 10,000 people. The Ministry of Health updated the relevant data and provided it to the Department of Statistics for inclusion in the Statistical Yearbook, following completion of the required procedures for approval.

Regarding research and development expenditure as a percentage of GDP, the National Information Center for Science and Technology coordinated with the relevant institutions and key partners to define responsibilities and identify the available data needed to calculate the indicator. The data collection questionnaire was also updated to allow targeted entities to submit information electronically, in preparation for collecting the required data and recalculating the indicator, which has not been calculated since 2016.

The executive action plan for the Future of Growth Index was reviewed and updated in cooperation with the national team representing the institutions concerned with the index. The updated measures were agreed upon and formally approved on June 2, 2026.

For the Human Development Index, all measures included in the short-term action plan have also been completed. In relation to life expectancy at birth, the Ministry of Health linked its health indicator systems with the electronic records system and coordinated with the Department of Statistics to provide the new system with health data and strengthen its use as a national reference for data.

Based on the findings of the 2023 Population and Family Health Survey, the Department of Statistics recommended that the Ministry of Health communicate with the World Health Organization regarding the adoption of life expectancy figures of 75.3 years for the total population, 77.0 years for females and 73.8 years for males.

The Ministry of Health also continued capacity-building activities under the Family Health Team model at targeted primary healthcare centers. Seventeen health centers were included in the program, alongside continued training for the healthcare staff participating in it.

Interactive online lectures were also launched to discuss priority issues in primary healthcare, while regular field visits to the targeted centers continued to assess the impact of training, monitor the implementation of its outcomes, document challenges, and provide the necessary technical support and feedback, contributing to improved quality of primary healthcare services.

The executive action plan for the Human Development Index was likewise reviewed and updated with the participation of the national team representing the relevant institutions. The updated measures were agreed upon and formally approved on June 2, 2026.
