Amman, Dec. 16 (Petra) – Jordan advanced nine positions in the World Bank’s 2024 Statistical Performance Indicators (SPI), ranking 74th globally out of 190 countries, compared with 85th in 2016.

According to a statement issued Tuesday by the Department of Statistics, Jordan ranked third among Arab countries, behind Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, and ahead of Egypt, Tunisia, and Palestine.

The Kingdom scored 78.8 points on the index, marking a 40 percent increase compared with the 2016 base year. The result places the Kingdom among countries classified by the World Bank as having high statistical performance, reflecting sustained improvements in the national statistical system led by the Department of Statistics.

The SPI is a key international benchmark that assesses countries’ capacity to develop and utilize statistical systems across five main pillars. It aims to strengthen the collection, analysis, and dissemination of data required to support public policy and evidence-based decision-making, with a focus on data quality, transparency, and reliability.

The strongest contributor to the Kingdom’s progress was the Data Services Pillar, which evaluates the quality and transparency of statistical services. This component recorded 93.6 points, doubling its score compared with 2016.

The department said the progress reflects continued national efforts to enhance the statistical system through updated legislation, institutional development, and resource allocation, contributing to stronger support for the Sustainable Development Goals and improved confidence in official data used in policymaking.
