Jordan, Algeria foreign ministers talk cooperation, coordinate on regional issues
Amman, June 21 (Petra) – Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs Ayman Safadi on Sunday received Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs Ahmed Attaf.
Attaf delivered a letter from Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to His Majesty King Abdullah II. He arrived in Jordan ahead of his participation in the Arab Consultative Meeting and the 165th regular session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level, both to be hosted by the Kingdom on Monday.
Safadi and Attaf reviewed the ties between Jordan and Algeria and said they are committed to expanding cooperation across a range of sectors to serve the interests of both countries.
Safadi and Attaf agreed to enhance cooperation in the economic, agricultural, health and pharmaceutical sectors, activate the Jordanian-Algerian Business Forum and explore mechanisms to facilitate trade, including a list of priority goods and products to be exchanged on preferential terms.
They agreed to begin preparations for the 10th session of the Jordanian-Algerian Joint Ministerial Committee.
The top diplomats discussed regional developments and efforts to de-escalate tensions, restore stability and address the root causes of regional crises.
They reviewed the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, calling for stabilising Gaza and ensuring the sustained and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid.
They called for halting Israeli violations in the occupied West Bank, including illegal settlement expansion, settler violence, land confiscation and attempts to alter the historical and legal status quo of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
The meeting addressed preparations for the Arab Consultative Meeting and the ministerial session of the Arab League Council, with both ministers calling for strengthening joint Arab action to address common challenges.
Safadi and Attaf agreed to maintain close coordination and consultation on bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interest.
