Amman, May 7 (Petra) -- The Azerbaijani Embassy in Amman said Jordanian-Azerbaijani relations have witnessed notable progress under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev across political, economic and cultural fields, alongside coordination in international forums serving shared interests.

In a statement issued on the occasion of the 103rd anniversary of the birth of former Azerbaijani President Heydar Aliyev, the embassy said Jordan was among the countries that supported Azerbaijan’s unity and territorial integrity, reflecting the depth of ties between the two countries.

The embassy said the late president laid the foundations for Jordanian-Azerbaijani relations based on mutual respect and joint cooperation, stressing that Azerbaijan continues its development path under President Ilham Aliyev’s leadership while seeking to further strengthen relations with Jordan in the interests of both peoples.

It also praised the Greater Amman Municipality’s initiative to name a street in the Bader Al Jadidah area after Heydar Aliyev, describing the move as a reflection of strong relations. The embassy noted that a street in the Azerbaijani capital Baku bears the name of the late King Hussein bin Talal, in addition to a twinning agreement between Amman and Baku.

The statement highlighted scholarship programs offered by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation to Jordanian students, saying they contribute to strengthening educational and cultural cooperation and opening new opportunities for Jordanian youth.

The embassy also underscored the role played by Heydar Aliyev during a pivotal period in Azerbaijan’s history, noting that he assumed the presidency in 1993 and contributed to consolidating internal stability and reinforcing the country’s unity and sovereignty.
