Jordan Condemns Israeli Occupation Minister’s Incursion into Al-Aqsa Mosque

Amman, May 13 (Petra) -- The Ministry of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs condemned the continued incursions by Israeli extremists, under the protection of Israeli police, into Al-Aqsa Mosque, including the raid by an extremist Israeli minister on Wednesday.

In its statement, the ministry also denounced the Israeli minister’s inflammatory calls to continue such incursions and provocative practices.

The described these actions as a flagrant violation of international law, a condemned escalation, and an unacceptable provocation that must stop immediately.

Ministry Spokesperson Fuad Majali affirmed Jordan’s "absolute rejection and strong" condemnation of the continued incursions and the extremist minister’s entry into Al-Aqsa Mosque, as a blatant violation of the historical and legal status quo at the site.

Majali said the move represents a rejected attempt to impose temporal and spatial division at the mosque and a desecration of its sanctity. He stressed that Israel has no sovereignty over occupied Jerusalem or its Islamic and Christian holy sites.

He warned of the consequences of inflammatory calls for incursions and the continued provocative and illegal violations against Islamic and Christian holy sites.

To stop this hardline policy, he urged the international community to adopt a "firm" position that compels Israel, as the occupying power, to halt all its ongoing illegal practices and violations of the sanctity of holy places.

Majali said these violations are part of the extremist Israeli government’s policy of pursuing dangerous escalation and illegal unilateral measures in the occupied West Bank.

He renewed Jordan’s position that Al-Aqsa Mosque, with its entire 144-dunum area, is a place of worship exclusively for Muslims.

He also stressed that the Jordan-run Jerusalem Awqaf and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department is the legal authority with exclusive jurisdiction over managing all affairs of Al-Aqsa Mosque and regulating entry to the site.
