Jordan Condemns Israeli Plans to Seize Properties Near Al-Aqsa Mosque

Amman, May 21 (Petra) -- The Ministry of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs condemned Israeli plans and measures aimed at confiscating Palestinian properties and Islamic endowments in the Bab Al-Silsila area adjacent to the Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif, describing them as a blatant violation of international law and the historical and legal status quo in occupied Jerusalem.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ambassador Fuad Majali reiterated Jordan’s absolute rejection and condemnation of Israeli measures aimed at evicting Palestinians from their homes and shops, seizing endowment and historical properties, and altering the demographic composition, character, and legal status of occupied Jerusalem.

He warned of the consequences of such escalatory measures targeting the vicinity of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the routes leading to it, stressing that they constitute a direct violation of the historical and legal status quo.

Majali stressed that all Israeli measures are "null and void and have no legal effect," adding that the continued policies of the Israeli government, which entrench the occupation and violate international law and relevant UN Security Council resolutions, undermine prospects for peace based on the two-state solution.

He said the two-state solution guarantees the Palestinian people’s right to establish an independent and sovereign state on the June 4, 1967 lines with East Jerusalem as its capital, calling on the international community to uphold its legal and moral responsibilities and compel Israel, as the occupying power, to halt its dangerous escalation and illegal unilateral measures.

He warned that such actions would lead to further deterioration and escalation, stressing that fulfilling the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them establishing an independent state on their national soil, remains the only path toward achieving just and comprehensive peace that guarantees security and stability in the region.
