Amman, February 15 (Petra) – Jordan Sunday condemned recent measures by the Israeli government aimed at annexing occupied Palestinian territory, most notably its decision to designate lands in the occupied West Bank as "state land." The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates described the move as a flagrant violation of international law and international humanitarian law and a direct assault on the Palestinian people's inalienable right to self-determination.

The Ministry stated that Israel has no sovereignty over the occupied West Bank and that such actions undermine prospects for ending the occupation and establishing an independent and sovereign Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 lines, with occupied East Jerusalem as its capital.

Ministry spokesperson Fouad Majali reaffirmed Jordan's absolute rejection of any Israeli decisions seeking to impose Israeli sovereignty and laws on the occupied West Bank.

He said the measures constitute a clear breach of international law, the legal status of the occupied territory, and relevant UN Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2334, which condemns all Israeli actions aimed at altering the demographic composition, character and status of the Palestinian territory occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem.

Majali noted the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice affirming the illegality of Israel's occupation of Palestinian territory and the invalidity of settlement construction and annexation measures in the occupied West Bank.

He warned against the continuation of what he described as illegal Israeli policies and violations in the occupied West Bank, including actions affecting Islamic and Christian holy sites in occupied Jerusalem.

Majali called on the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities and to compel Israel to halt its unilateral measures and escalation in the occupied territory.

He said that fulfilling the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, especially establishing an independent state on their national soil, remains the only path toward achieving a just and comprehensive peace that ensures security and stability in the region.
