Amman, May 6 (Petra) – Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs Ayman Safadi, Cypriot Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos and Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis discussed on Wednesday the role of the fifth summit of the Jordanian-Cypriot-Greek Cooperation Mechanism in advancing institutional cooperation among the three countries.

The summit, hosted by His Majesty King Abdullah II, Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, aimed to strengthen collaboration in a manner that serves shared interests.

In press statements following the summit, the ministers reaffirmed their leaders' commitment to expanding cooperation under the trilateral mechanism, launched in 2018, by reinforcing its institutional framework and broadening collaboration across key sectors.

They highlighted the summit's role in enhancing coordination to address regional challenges, end ongoing escalation and promote security and stability, while positioning the Eastern Mediterranean as a bridge between Europe and the Arab world.

Speaking at a joint press conference, Safadi said the trilateral mechanism reflects a shared political will to deepen cooperation and contribute to regional stability. He noted that discussions covered a wide range of sectors, including water, energy, culture, education and tourism.

Safadi added that regional developments featured prominently, particularly efforts to de-escalate tensions and support a solution between the United States and Iran that addresses longstanding sources of instability.

He noted the summit's condemnation of attacks targeting Jordan and Gulf Arab states.

The talks addressed developments in Lebanon, Syria and the Palestinian territories, as well as the Cyprus issue and other matters of mutual concern. Safadi said a joint statement detailing the outcomes would be issued at the conclusion of the summit.

He reaffirmed support for Lebanon’s sovereignty and stability, including the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and Israel's withdrawal from occupied Lebanese territories.

Safadi stressed that the Palestinian issue remained central, with leaders reiterating the need to implement a two-state solution based on international law and UN resolutions, as the only path to a just and comprehensive peace.

He called for halting all unilateral Israeli measures, including settlement expansion, settler violence, land confiscation and attempts to alter the historical and legal status quo at Jerusalem's holy sites.

The leaders further called for the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza and expressed support for efforts to ensure Syria's unity, sovereignty and stability, including maintaining security in southern Syria in line with agreed frameworks.

Safadi underscored the importance of Israel's adherence to the 1974 Disengagement Agreement, withdrawal from occupied Syrian territories and non-interference in Syrian affairs, while rejecting separatist agendas.

On Cyprus, called for a resolution based on international law and relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

The leaders tasked their foreign ministers with building on the summit's outcomes by identifying new areas of cooperation and strengthening coordination on regional security.

For his part, Kombos said the trilateral partnership is grounded in a strong and enduring foundation, adding that its importance continues to grow amid current regional challenges.

He expressed Cyprus's solidarity with Jordan and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states.

Gerapetritis, in turn, praised Jordan's role in promoting regional peace and stability, describing the Kingdom as a cornerstone of stability. He reaffirmed Greece's support for preserving the historical and legal status quo at Jerusalem's holy sites and the Hashemite custodianship over them.
