Amman, July 13 (Petra) -- Chief Executive Officer of the Jordan Phosphate Mines Company (JPMC) Abdul Wahab Rawad and Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi discussed opportunities to strengthen cooperation and exchange expertise in phosphate fertilizer production and mining industries.
The meeting focused on developing partnerships between Jordan and Egypt by building on the two countries’ phosphate resources, technical capabilities and experience in mining-related industries, with the aim of enhancing economic cooperation and creating greater value from available resources.
Rawad highlighted the longstanding relations between Jordan and Egypt and affirmed JPMC’s interest in expanding cooperation in phosphate and mining industries.
He noted that the company is working to broaden partnerships with Arab and friendly countries and enhance cooperation in the mining sector to support Jordan’s economy and strengthen the role of phosphate industries as an important contributor to national development.
Rawad also reviewed the development of Jordan’s phosphate industry, including the company’s production and sales achievements despite regional challenges. He praised Egypt’s efforts to advance its mining sector and promote cooperation among Arab countries in this field.
Badawi outlined Egypt’s strategy to increase the value generated from phosphate resources through expanding processing industries, particularly phosphate fertilizer and phosphoric acid production. He said these efforts are aimed at increasing the mining sector’s contribution to the economy and improving its ability to attract investment.
He added that reforms in Egypt’s mining sector, including updates to regulations and measures to improve the investment environment, are intended to support integrated industrial projects and ensure more efficient use of mineral resources.
The two sides agreed to maintain coordination between technical teams to explore areas of cooperation, develop practical mechanisms, and pursue joint projects that support mutual interests and strengthen collaboration in mining industries.
