Amman, March 30 (Petra) -- The Lower House of Parliament's Health Committee met on Monday with Lelise Dhugaa, Commissioner of the Oromia Region Tourism Commission, and Elias Gebremeskel, Area Manager of Ethiopian Airlines, to discuss prospects for cooperation in medical and religious tourism between the two countries.
Committee Chairman MP Ahmad Sarahneh underscored the depth of Jordanian-Ethiopian ties and stressed the importance of expanding cooperation, exchanging expertise, and building strategic partnerships, particularly in the healthcare sector.
He highlighted Dhugaa's treatment experience at the King Hussein Cancer Center as a strong example of Jordan's advanced medical services and competitive treatment costs, and praised Ethiopian Airlines' role in facilitating travel and strengthening air connectivity.
Committee members said Jordan offers strong assets in both medical and religious tourism, citing Christian pilgrimage sites including Bethany Beyond the Jordan, Mount Nebo, and Machaerus, as well as other destinations such as Ajloun. They called for stronger promotion of Jordan as a safe and attractive destination for visitors and patients alike.
For her part, Dhugaa praised the quality of care and medical infrastructure in Jordan, describing her treatment experience as exceptional on both the human and professional levels. She said the services exceeded expectations and compared favorably with those available in Europe and the United States, adding that her visit would help convey a positive image of Jordan to the Ethiopian public and government.
Gebremeskel, in turn, reviewed Ethiopian Airlines' network expansion and expressed the carrier's readiness to support tourism promotion and stronger air links in ways that serve the interests of both countries.
