Jordan-EU Investment Conference 2026 a 'key' platform to launch partnerships, projects: EuroCham

Amman, August 15 (Petra) – Chairman of European Chamber of Commerce in Jordan (EuroCham), Mohammad Smadi, affirmed Jordan-EU Investment Conference 2026 represents a "practical step to translate the strategic and comprehensive" partnership between Jordan and the EU into tangible investments and projects.

Smadi, in remarks to "Petra" Saturday, said the conference is a "crucial" economic milestone, as its significance extends beyond simply promoting investment opportunities, hoping the event would produce viable investments, agreements, and partnerships.

The conference will be held on November 19 in the Dead Sea region, under patronage of His Majesty King Abdullah II, with participation of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

Smadi affirmed holding the conference in Jordan sends a "clear" message of confidence in the Kingdom as a reliable economic and political partner, and as a stable platform for business and investment in a region undergoing significant transformations.

Jordan now has a "genuine" opportunity to build upon the comprehensive strategic partnership with the European Union, which includes a €3 billion financial and investment package for the period 2025–2027, of which approximately €1.4 billion targets investment, he pointed out.

Jordan, he said, possesses a range of sectors that directly align with current European investment priorities, mainly renewable and green energy, water management, infrastructure projects, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and medical tourism.

Citing other sectors which the Kingdom "excels," he referred particularly to information technology and digital services, mining and related industries, food processing, modern agriculture, and tourism, calling for presenting Jordan to European investors as a "regional industrial and production hub, not merely a local market." According to the latest European data, total trade in goods between Jordan and the European Union reached approximately €6.1 billion in 2025, making the EU Jordan's second-largest trading partner, accounting for 15.2% of the Kingdom's total trade in goods.

He stated that the key axis for Jordan focuses on increasing competitiveness of Jordanian products in the European market.

Last year, he announced Jordanian exports to the EU reached approximately €900 million, concentrated primarily in the chemical, apparel, textile, and mining industries, among others, expressing his hope that these figures would increase in the coming years.

He added: "Jordan has clear opportunities in the pharmaceutical, food, chemical, fertilizer, apparel, agricultural, services, and information technology sectors." He called for enhancing "readiness" of Jordanian companies to meet new European requirements, particularly criteria related to sustainability, environment, and market access standards, including the carbon credit mechanism at the European border.

In this regard, he emphasized that the chamber will play a "feasible" role in assisting the Jordanian private sector to understand and prepare to meet these requirements.
