Amman, May 4 (Petra) – Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Kharabsheh on Monday said Jordan is advancing cooperation with Syria and Lebanon in the natural gas and electricity sectors, as part of broader efforts to strengthen regional energy integration.

Speaking at a press conference on the sidelines of a trilateral ministerial meeting in Amman, Kharabsheh said discussions focused on expanding gas exchange projects, optimizing existing infrastructure, and enhancing electrical interconnection among the three countries. He noted that technical teams have completed advanced stages of feasibility studies and network assessments to support infrastructure upgrades.

He added that the projects have reached a mature phase, with details expected to be announced once technical and contractual arrangements are finalized.

Kharabsheh said current cooperation includes importing natural gas from international markets through Jordan, regasifying it, and supplying it to Syria via the Arab Gas Pipeline, contributing to stabilizing the country’s energy sector.

He added that similar arrangements with Lebanon are being finalized following the completion of gas network rehabilitation, paving the way for the full implementation of electricity interconnection projects.

Syrian Minister of Energy Mohammed Bashir said the meeting builds on ongoing coordination among the three countries, highlighting progress in rehabilitating segments of the Arab Gas Pipeline and facilitating gas imports via Jordan. He said these efforts have supported the stability of Syria’s electricity grid and improved service delivery.

Bashir added that Syria is rehabilitating electricity interconnection lines with Jordan and Lebanon, noting that several links with Lebanon are operationally ready following technical assessments, enabling activation in the near term.

He also pointed to progress in projects aimed at transporting gas to Lebanon through Syrian territory, which is expected to enhance electricity generation capacity and improve energy supply.

Lebanese Minister of Energy and Water Joe Saddi said the trilateral cooperation represents a strategic pathway to rebuilding Lebanon’s energy sector on sustainable and efficient foundations.

Saddi highlighted the importance of gas and electricity interconnection projects in ensuring reliable and cost-effective energy supplies, expressing optimism over achieving tangible progress in the near future.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the ministers stressed the need to sustain technical coordination and joint efforts to finalize implementation requirements, with a view to deepening regional energy integration and advancing shared economic interests.
