Amman, May 4 (Petra) -- Minister of Transport Nidal Katamine announced on Monday the formation of a specialized technical committee to oversee and expedite transit trade, particularly toward Iraq, as the kingdom moves to strengthen its position as a regional logistics hub.

The committee is tasked with submitting operational reports every three days on the movement of goods from the Port of Aqaba to their final destinations. The group will also be responsible for identifying and resolving any administrative or logistical bottlenecks in real-time.

Speaking during a meeting with the Association of Owners of Clearance and Transport Companies, Katamine emphasized that the clearance sector is vital to facilitating trade and supporting the national economy. "Coordination between all stakeholders is essential to ensure the seamless flow of goods and to keep pace with the increasing workload at the Port of Aqaba," Katamine said.

The discussions focused on the growing volume of transit activity directed toward the Iraqi market, which officials said requires higher operational efficiency and modernized logistics services. Representatives from the clearance association outlined the primary challenges facing their operations, prompting the minister to pledge government support to simplify procedures and improve the business environment for transport companies.

The meeting, attended by senior officials and Land Transport Regulatory Commission (LTRC) stakeholders, is part of a broader government effort to enhance the competitiveness of Jordan's transport sector and leverage its strategic location to boost international trade.
