Amman, Jan. 11 (Petra) -- The Economic and Social Council will host a consultative meeting on Monday to discuss the new Mediterranean Charter, with participation from the Union of Arab Economic and Social Councils, similar regional bodies, and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe.
According to a council statement on Sunday, the meeting aims to review the main principles of the charter recently endorsed by the European Union, which provides a reference framework for future action plans.
The discussions will address the role of the private sector and civil society in enhancing economic cooperation among Mediterranean countries and provide an Arab perspective on the charter.
The council noted that the EU Ambassador to Jordan, Pierre-Christophe Chatzisavas, will participate to discuss implementation mechanisms, expected impacts on member states and ways to activate joint cooperation in the coming phase.
The meeting follows the official launch of the new Mediterranean Charter in Barcelona in late October, attended by members of the Union of Arab Economic and Social Councils and similar bodies, aiming to strengthen regional partnerships and support sustainable economic and social development in the region.
The event takes place under Jordan's co-presidency with the EU of the Union for the Mediterranean, highlighting the Kingdom's high-level diplomacy and leadership in promoting joint regional action with the European Union.
